My coaches challenge me to do stuff I would a) probably never think of on my own, and b) wouldn’t have the guts to attempt without their support and encouragement.
Take, for example, the most recent thing I’ve been working on: reaching out to big-time singers who have made it known publicly that they have vocal health issues. My entire career as a vocal coach I’ve wanted to help them because they have the most frequent, most pressing need to be always vocally healthy, and I KNOW I can help them achieve that.
What I haven’t known, is how to contact them. How to get through to them. And what to say once I figure it out. And I let those “unknowns” paralyze me for YEARS from taking any action; I allowed that big dream of mine to take a back seat because I didn’t know how to make it happen.
I recently heard about another big-time singer with some real struggles and she had an email address on her website. Still a bit in paralysis, I sat on that knowledge for about a week… and then – with a little help from my coach – I did it. I reached out.
And she responded. With curiosity.
So I replied back, which took another bout of encouragement, but I did it!
How many times have you done this in your singing? How many times have you wanted something so badly but didn’t know where to begin so you just brushed it aside like it didn’t matter?
You know what the best remedy for that is? The accountability and support of a coach and a supportive community of people going through it just like you are. It’s completely okay to need the occasional kick in the pants when it comes to doing the scary stuff! And sometimes (like in my case), it inspires you to keep doing more.
On your own, it’s too easy to decide it’s not that big of a deal if it never happens. It’s too easy to come up with a million reasons not to do the scary stuff. But when you let someone else in on it – someone committed to helping you do it – yes, you might get challenged to do some things you wouldn’t otherwise have felt brave enough to attempt, but you might also achieve that big dream.
What big dreams have you been hiding that you want to dust off and take a stab at achieving? If you’re really serious about making this happen, let me coach you through it. This is the kind of thing I do all the time with my private clients and with my members of No Limits Academy. Let’s have a chat and figure out the best plan of action for you. Stop sitting on those dreams like I was and take the next step – hire a coach to help you actually do it!
