I talk about this in my book (which you should get if you haven’t: www.turnsoutimhot.com), but when my husband left me after nearly 2 decades of a marriage with very nearly zero intimacy, I had fallen down a pretty long, dark rabbit hole of believing I was unlovable, undesirable, and most definitely not sexy.
A couple months before leaving me, I was invited to spend a long weekend in a community of amazing women who, quite frankly, intimidated me.
I already wasn’t coming close to feeling “enough” in my marriage, and now I was about to spend the weekend with women who could compare my annual income to their lunch money for the day.
So when one of them looked at me and declared, “Katti, you are one badass mammajamma!”, I was incredibly shocked before being able to feel grateful. But I took that to heart. I made it my mission to show up as that “badass mammajamma” in everything I do, which later led to a very crucial decision I made for myself.
Because I had newly embraced my badass mammajamma self and walked a couple miles in her shoes when my husband left me, I was able to lean into a superpower I’d recently uncovered in myself: the power of decision.
Just 4 days before he left me, I was on a stage in Vegas speaking to a showroom packed full of nervous and excited singing competitors from all over the US telling them they had the power to decide that they were going to win that contest. I shared what I’d learned with them about how the root of the word “decision” means to cut off all other possibility, so when they were able to TRULY decide that the win was theirs, they would be cutting off all possibility of any other outcome.
I realized in the wake of being left that I had that same power – I could DECIDE that I am lovable, I am desirable, and I am sexy.
So I did.
And it WORKED. Not only do I now full-on believe that about myself and am able to acknowledge it as fact, but I hear it from others regularly (sometimes in unpleasant ways, but still).
Where in your singing are you feeling like you’re not enough? What decisions do you need to make about yourself in order to achieve your goals?
I’d LOVE to help you to the other side of feeling not enough. I’ve SOOOOO been there and I get it in ways you can only understand if you’ve been there, too.
I’ve made some space in my calendar to chat with you about this, all you have to do is pick one of the times I have. You can do that here: www.getmypowerup.com.
In the meantime, you can borrow the strength and confidence I grew inside all by myself until we can get you on the path of cultivating your own. It’s possible!
I look forward to talking with you!
